Position Summary:
Housed in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Sciences in the College of Natural Resources, this tenure track assistant or associate professor position will develop an externally funded research program focusing on both indigenous and western science aspects of native fisheries recovery and management in the Pacific Northwest; collaborate with departmental, college and university researchers, Aquaculture Research Institute scientists, CRITFC specialists and managers, regional tribal partners, and other external partners on interdisciplinary research focused on fisheries recovery and management; apply modern research tools (e.g. genomics, isotope ecology, telemetry), and develop new research directions in fisheries recovery and management with a focus on the intersection of indigenous and western science components of conservation of natural resources. This position will teach approximately 7 credits of coursework each year. Acceptable courses may include tribal fisheries management, conservation physiology and genetics, conservation aquaculture or other courses relevant to the interdisciplinary degrees of the College and campus-wide Environmental Science program. Graduate courses taught may include fisheries recovery and management theory as applied to native fish management, graduate research methods, or other courses based on academic qualifications. This position will also advise graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Natural Resources. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in a related fisheries science discipline or related interdisciplinary natural resource degree with formal training in applied fisheries science methods or tribal fisheries management
Demonstrated experience in Indigenous Knowledge related to fisheries and natural resources
Experience publishing in refereed journals on topics of fisheries science research related to recovery and management of native fish;
Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses using effective approaches;
Ability to develop a research program that is both relevant statewide and recognized nationally, including the capacity to obtain external grants; and
Experience with written communication relevant to scientific and natural resource management audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to secure external grant funding for research in collaboration with regional Tribal and agency partners in the Pacific Northwest.
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with regional Tribes and agency partners.
Provide mentorship to students from diverse backgrounds on aspects of both Indigenous Knowledge and Western science.
The level of experience will be evaluated at a level appropriate to the position rank indicated by the applicant.
